Class will take place on Sunday June 28th from 1pm — 3:30 pm at the Toolbox Collective: 3400 42nd Ave S, Minneapolis, MN 55406
Hosted by Lizzie from Rare Press and Melissa from Audrey’s Cookbooks
This listing is for admission to an in-person workshop: Fabric Blockprinting ~ Customize Your Tote! Create your own custom tote bag, perfect for your farmer’s market haul or library run.
For this class, you are welcome to bring your own tote bag (or several)! We highly suggest bringing a bag that is made from a thinner cotton - if the fabric is too textured (like thick canvas), your prints won’t be as crisp. Lightweight cotton totes will be available for purchase in class if needed.
This is a great class for beginners! We will walk you through the steps of creating your own custom stamp(s), from sketching, transferring your drawing to rubber, carving, and printing. We’ll focus on collaborative printing, with the opportunity to use each other’s stamps to print on your tote. The possibilities are endless. We can't wait to see what you make!
Please wear clothing that you are comfortable getting inky, or bring an apron.
During class, we will use the following supplies:
✵ 4x6" block of pink Speedy Carve rubber
✵ Speedball carving tool with 5 gouges
✵ black blockprinting ink for fabric
✵ soft lead pencil
✵ sketch paper
Once class is finished, you will bring home your printed tote bag(s), plus your custom carved stamps which can be used for future printing at home.
There is plenty of street parking near the Toolbox Collective, and it’s also conveniently located across the street from Turtle Bread, so you could get lunch or coffee before class.
